At We Work For Health (WWFH), our commitment to fostering health equity across the nation goes beyond advocacy—it extends to tangible, community-driven initiatives that address long-standing disparities in healthcare access and outcomes. That’s why we were pleased to host a number of engagements throughout 2024 that reflect our mission to support policies that lead to equitable access to life-saving treatments, while also working on the ground to improve the lives of underserved populations.
In June, WWFH participated in a roundtable discussion alongside the Oregon School-Based Health Alliance (OSBHA) and local lawmakers. By ensuring these centers are available to students in their local communities, we help reduce disparities in healthcare access for Oregon’s youth, ensuring they can thrive academically and emotionally.
In August, WWFH hosted the event “Closing Disparities in Diabetes” in New Mexico. Area lawmakers and medical experts emphasized the importance of addressing the growing diabetes epidemic in families of color. This community conversation also brought attention to diversity in clinical trials, a core focus of WWFH’s equity initiative.
Later that month, WWFH participated in SOAR Church’s “Unity in the Community Day” in New Jersey. WWFH helped distribute school supplies to underserved families and connect them to local healthcare resources, exemplifying our commitment to fostering strong community relationships. Supporting public health initiatives at the community level is an important step in eliminating healthcare disparities.
WWFH’s approach to fostering a diverse talent pipeline within the biopharmaceutical industry also underpins our health equity efforts. We believe that a workforce that reflects the diversity of America is better equipped to understand and address the healthcare needs of a diverse patient population. Our support for STEM education is a key component of our strategy to build a future where the industry is led by individuals from all backgrounds.
These are only a sampling of our engagements, and WWFH looks forward to continuing to champion a holistic approach to achieving health equity. From addressing social determinants of health to promoting diversity in clinical trials and fostering inclusive community partnerships, we are committed to ensuring that every person has the opportunity to live a healthier, longer life, no matter their background.
