We Work For Health Statement on Biden Administration's Plan for "March-In" Rights

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Dec. 7, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. — We Work For Health Executive Director Dan Leonard issued the following statement in response to the Biden administration’s announcement that it plans to exercise “march-in” rights:

“The innovation ecosystem – which for decades has shepherded incredible advances in medicine – relies on the private and public sectors to collaborate and deliver improved care for patients. The administration’s announcement today puts that at risk, once again chipping away at the United States’ ability to bring life-saving treatments to patients. Since the passage of the Bayh-Dole Act, public-private partnerships have spurred the discovery of more than 200 new medicines and vaccines. Any overstep on march-in rights is antithetical to the law’s purpose and would be another chilling setback for the U.S.’s leadership in life science and benefits for patients.”
